Common little things can become mysterious and alien if given the proper circumstances. For instance on scene in a popular sci-fi show nearly set my mother's blood on fire one night. It was the same actress who played a mom, brushing the hair of the same actress who played the daughter every other night. It was on the surface a common little domestic scene of the sort that gave the show its power. But the plot had been twisted and now is was dark and ominous.
