The tree pictured above (not a shrub) is a krumholtz. That is not a species name but rather refers to the growth pattern of a high elevation tree that has been beaten and battered into a compact, twisted shape by the wind, cold, and other stresses of life.
It is a fun word to say in general and fun to speculate on who or what else might bare that name in a story. So if one was creating a character named Krumholtz what would he/she/it looks like? Autumn? Who need autumn? Just step right out of 85 and sunny into "Good gravy! Where did I put that fleece hat last year?!"
Sometimes all it takes is one little question to let you know your night just got a lot more interesting. And they make specific cleaner for getting bugs off of your grill...who knew?
